Solutions to the world's problems

I was following some of the links in the gun posts before and I got to the one from Australia - where the non-criminals turned in their guns, but the criminals did not and so assaults continued or increased. 
 
Isn't this like the ZPG movement - Zero Population Growth?  Anyone who can appreciate that there is a problem is not likely to have 7 kids, or even 5 kids.  And that a country which practiced the sensible ZPG (two kids as replacement for the two parents) would, in two generations, comprise a significantly smaller percentage of the world, and thus be less influential?
 
I was at a party this weekend with real families - middle-aged, kids, the whole nine yards.   Nevertheless, I found myself talking with this one woman, who I know to be single and childless, and 53.  She seemed to appreciate AIDS as a form of population control.  How stupid!  There are how many people alive these days? 6 billion or so?  AIDS only kills in the millions, it will take forever for any kind of population reduction that way.  We just simply need to shoot all of the baby boomers into the sun.  That would  eliminate the need for Medicare and Social Security in one clean stroke.  And just think of all the jobs we could create - we could take all of those guns and use them to have one huge bounty-hunter party as we tracked down all the old folks.
