The Logic That Ends With Moonshine
Judy Chandler Wilson, Certified Prevention Professional, and Director of the Adanta Group, a rehab center in Somerset, Kentucky, paints herself into an interesting corner with this letter to the editor in the Central Kentucky News Journal:
There are many who would legalize marijuana. But ask yourself these questions. Would you want to ride in an airplane with a pilot who was a regular marijuana smoker? Would you want to undergo surgery by a physician who smoked pot before he came to the hospital? Would you want your child to have a sixth grade teacher who came to school under the influence?I sent Ms. Wilson an email:
If you replace marijuana with alcohol for each of those three questions, the answer to each of those questions does not change. I certainly wouldn't want to undergo surgery by a physician who'd had a few drinks or to have a young child whose teacher came to school drunk. Are you saying that alcohol should be illegal?Considering that DEA chief propagandist Karen Tandy has been known to wax nostalgic for alcohol prohibition, it's a possibility that the answer here is yes. I'll post an update if she responds.
