Imposing Morality
Will makes a good point here (referencing an older post from Dan Savage) about the attacks from Kos on Democratic candidates' unwillingness to say that homosexuality isn't immoral. It's not the role of government to decide what's moral or immoral. It's the role of government to safeguard the rights of its citizens against those who seek to impose morality. Moral choices are supposed to be private and individual. If a politician understands that, that's way more important than what their own moral choices happen to be.
UPDATE: Another point, coming out of the comments, is that by focusing so much on the morality of homosexuality, it hints towards the false notion that homosexuality itself is a choice. In a sense, to talk about homosexuality as a moral issue tends to play right into the right-wing misperceptions of homosexuality.
