Here's the latest salvo in the media's ongoing attempt to cover up the fact that marijuana prohibition is possibly the most massive domestic policy blunder in this country's history:
"The increases in marijuana potency are of concern since they increase the likelihood of acute toxicity, including mental impairment," Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, says in a news release. "Particularly worrisome is the possibility that the more potent THC might be more effective at triggering the changes in the brain that can lead to addiction; however, more research is needed to establish this link between higher THC potency and higher addiction risk."Translation:
We have no evidence to prove that stronger pot leads to addiction, but it's our job to assume that it's dangerous and just let the scientists prove us wrong (oh, and we also do everything we can to keep scientists from being able to study it).UPDATE: Bruce Mirken piles on.
